Real Sociedad are set to keep hold of Martín Zubimendi after a new update from club president Jokin Aperribay.
The 25-year-old midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool but Arne Slot will have to do without as the player opts to remain in Spain.
La Real boss Imanol Alguacil previously confirmed Zubimendi turned down an offer from the Premier League side. New revelations on Monday from the LaLiga side confirmed a transfer is officially off the table.
“I can confirm that Zubi’s camp told us that he’s staying at the club,” said Aperribay on Monday. “We are very happy with that.”
Liverpool hoped Zubimendi would bring an added boost in midfield but must now turn elsewhere as deadline day looms.
Meanwhile, Real Sociedad will now look to keep hold of Mikel Merino with Arsenal circling for his signature.
