While the 3-2 comeback win against Celta Vigo has created a great buzz at FC Barcelona, it came at some cost for the Blaugrana as they lost Frenkie de Jong to an injury.

The midfield mainstay had to be taken off in the first half with an ankle issue and the club have confirmed that the Dutchman has indeed sprained his right ankle.

“Tests carried out have shown that Frenkie de Jong has a high right ankle sprain. He is out and his recovery will determine his availability,” the official statement from the club read.

De Jong could be out until November

While there has been no time period provided for his recovery and return, reports suggest that De Jong could be out for over a month, until November.

It would mean that the Netherlands international would miss crucial matches against the likes of Sevilla, FC Porto, Athletic Club, and Shakhtar Donetsk, at the very least.

It would also lead to the Barcelona superstar missing the all important El Clasico against Real Madrid which will take place on October 28.

This does not come as good news for Barcelona, who are already without another key midfielder in the form of Pedri.

The 20-year-old is only expected to be back after next month’s international break and De Jong would now be out for a few more weeks beyond that.
