FC Barcelona have secured the signing of midfielder Roger Martinez on a free transfer. Arriving from Espanyol, he will become a part of the Barça Atletic team, the club have confirmed.
“FC Barcelona has reached an agreement with Roger Martinez for his transfer to Barça Atletic. The Badalona midfielder arrives on a free transfer and is tied to the club for two seasons, until June 30, 2027,” the club statement read.
“The new Barça player has undergone the usual medical tests, visited the club’s facilities, and will join the Barça reserve team’s training under Juliano Belletti at Vall d’en Bas starting this Tuesday.”
Martinez is a midfielder familiar with the Barcelona shirt. In the early stages of his youth career, he played at La Masia.
Between 2013 and 2016, he featured for the Blaugrana’s Benjamin B, Alevin D, and Alevin B teams. He later moved to UE Cornella and then joined Espanyol, where he made his professional debut.
Martinez spent the last season away on loan at CD Lugo, where he played 34 matches and scored one goal.
With his contract at Espanyol expiring earlier this month, Martinez has returned to Barcelona and will be a part of Juliano Belletti’s team, hoping to help Barça Atletic earn promotion back to RFEF Primera Division.
