Aston Villa have announced the signing of Dutch goalkeeper Marco Bizot (33) from Stade Brestois 29 for an undisclosed fee.

Bizot leaves Brest after four seasons in Brittany, where he played a pivotal role in the club’s historic qualification for the UEFA Champions League last season. He made all 34 Ligue 1 appearances for Éric Roy’s side in 2023/24, conceding just 34 goals — a record that helped Brest to a third-place finish, the highest in the club’s history.

The experienced shot-stopper is a product of the famed Ajax youth academy, and previously played for Groningen, Genk, and AZ Alkmaar, with whom he featured regularly in European competition. He earned his first senior cap for the Netherlands national team in 2020.

Bizot’s move to the Premier League brings to an end a successful stint in Ligue 1 that saw him become one of the division’s most consistent goalkeepers. He now joins Unai Emery’s Villa side as they prepare for a return to the Europa League.GFFN | George Boxall
