Borussia Mönchengladbach have announced that striker Alassane Plea has left the club to join PSV Eindhoven.
Plea leaves Borussia Park after seven years at the club after joining from Nice in 2018 for €23m, making him the club’s record buy, which he still remains today.
The 32-year-old moves to the Netherlands for a fee of around €4m, reports kicker, and signs a contract at PSV until 2028.
On leaving Gladbach, Plea said:
“I look back with gratitude on seven wonderful years at this amazing club that I’ve grown to love. It was always an honour to wear the jersey with the diamond. I want to thank every single Foal for this incredibly special chapter in my career – this club will always have a place in my heart.”
In 236 appearances for die Fohlen, Plea scored 68 and assisted 53 times. The former French international played a key role in Gladbach qualifying for the Champions League in 2019/20, as well as mounting an initial title challenge earlier in the season.
Gladbach must now find a replacement for Plea, as due to the injury to Tim Kleindienst, they now only have one fit senior striker in Tomas Cvancara. Shuto Machino has been linked, but could now cost €10m, while other names such as Sebastian Esposito have also been mentioned.
Away from finding a striker, Paul Wanner has been linked as a loan candidate to fill the creative hole left by Plea.
