Earlier this summer, Atalanta turned down a €45 million bid from Inter for Ademola Lookman, prompting the Nigerian international to submit a formal transfer request. In a public statement, he accused the club of failing to honor commitments and of unprofessional treatment.

Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi later acknowledged that an agreement had been made to allow Lookman to leave—but only for a top club outside Serie A. While awaiting a potential move to Inter, Lookman took an unauthorized two-week leave to return to the UK.

However, Inter ultimately withdrew from negotiations and shifted their strategy to sign midfielder Andy Diouf instead. Lookman has since resumed individual training at Atalanta but was excluded from the squad for Sunday's match.

Notably, new signings Nikola Krstovic, Kamaldeen Sulemana, and 17-year-old Honest Ahanor have all been included in the team.

Other options for Inter Milan

During the period when a potential move to Inter appeared imminent, Lookman took an unauthorized two-week break and returned to the UK. The transfer, however, ultimately collapsed as Inter opted to alter their strategy and signed midfielder Andy Diouf instead.

Lookman has now returned to individual training with Atalanta but was not selected for the matchday squad in Sunday's fixture.

Meanwhile, the club's newly acquired players—Nikola Krstovic, Kamaldeen Sulemana, and 17-year-old Honest Ahanor—have all been included in the team.
