Nuno Espirito Santo has vowed he will not resign from his job as Nottingham Forest’s head coach.

The Forest manager revealed on Friday that his relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis is no longer a good one.

But asked after his side’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace whether he has considered walking away, Espírito Santo said: “This narrative, it’s absurd. Never. I don’t know how many years I have of coaching. I came to Wolves in the Championship. I love what I do. The moment that I don’t enjoy it, it’s over.”

Espirito Santo revealed that he wished to have a conversation with Marinakis and Edu to sort out their differences ahead of guiding Forest through their first European campaign in 30 years.

“What I think is that we need to have this conversation,” he said. “We need to have this conversation and we have it. This is what I think is more important than anything.

“The players need it, the squad needs it, the club needs it, we need it and we are going to have it.”

When asked if he felt offended that his job was at risk after his stellar work in achieving a top-seven finish, he said: “This is how football is. There are things that I myself cannot control.

“What I said, and I had a long thought about it, is my concern for the squad. These boys last season achieved something fantastic. If we as a club don’t help them in terms of numbers, in terms of quality and talent, everything will go.

“What we have ahead of us is the Premier League, Europa League, Carabao Cup and FA Cup. You know how many games this means for us. This is the respect that we have to show to our squad. [We need to] help them.”

Nuno confirmed that the priority is to bring in another goalkeeper to support Matz Sels, as well as two more full-backs to provide further depth.

“First of all, let’s try to complete our squad,” he said. “This is really important that in the final days of this transfer market, we still have the chance. We need three, one more goalie and two full-backs, because you cannot live with the fear and uncertainty if something happens to Ola [Aina] and to Neco [Williams]. We need this.”

Forest have already made eight additions this summer, with Angus Gunn, Douglas Luiz, Jair Cunha, Igor Jesus, Dan Ndoye, James McAtee, Omari Hutchinson and Arnaud Kalimuendo joining the club.
