It was a game of two halves at Selhurst Park, with Ismaïla Sarr’s composed strike giving Crystal Palace the lead before half-time.
But a solid second half response from Forest saw Callum Hudson-Odoi race away one-on-one and fire the ball into the back of the net to rescue a point.
The Crystal Palace fans were fired up for this fixture with Nottingham Forest being the team who benefitted by getting their Europa League spot, and this was greeted with boos from the home fans every time a Forest player touched the ball.
The away side started the more lively of the two with a few half chances which just whistled wide of the post. It would take just 14 minutes for the first booking, as Maxence Lacroix took down Morgan Gibbs-White, stopping him on the counter.
The Eagles slowly grew into the game and were rewarded with the first goal; a lovely composed finish from Sarr, who converted at close range from a drilled cross by Daniel Muñoz.
Espírito Santo’s side had the perfect start to the second half, with Hudson-Odoi firing into near post past Dean Henderson, but it was all about the pass from Dan Ndoye, who half volleyed a pitch perfect ball to send the Englishman in alone.
It was so nearly the fairy tale ending for Forest, as Igor Jesus raced away and smashed a shot, only to see it rattle back off the post.
Despite trailing after the first 45 minutes, it was a spirited second half performance which earnt Nottingham Forest a point and they could have even stolen all three had it not been for the woodwork.
