Rangers are monitoring the situation of Nottingham Forest striker Emmanuel Dennis ahead of a potential swoop, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon.
The Ibrox club want to bolster their squad for the second half of 2024-25 amid a spate of injuries, and the 27-year-old Nigerian has emerged as a target.
However, Rangers could struggle to land Dennis as he is currently on a £4 million-a-year salary, which is around £80,000 per week.
Watford and Sheffield Wednesday have looked to take him to the English Championship but his wages have proven to be a stumbling block, and the Light Blues are unlikely to make any serious attempt to land him if he is unwilling to take a huge pay cut.
However, while Forest would prefer a permanent sale for the Rangers target, they are open to a loan spell, which would see them cover part of his wages.
Dennis is no longer in their plans having last played for them in May 2023 against Crystal Palace, but he still has 18 months left on his contract.
An exit before the January transfer window closes on February 3 appears likely and Rangers and other suitors will continue to keep tabs on things.
The Bears were without Dujon Sterling, Neraysho Kasanwirjo, John Souttar, Leon Balogun, Yilmaz, Kieran Dowell, Barron, Cerny, Rabbi Matondo, Oscar Cortes, and Danilo against Dundee United yesterday and could do with January additions if they want to make anything meaningful out of their campaign.
With 52 goals and 24 assists to his name in 240 appearances as a professional, Dennis has the needed experience and quality Rangers could do with in a player going forward, and landing him on loan until the end of the season could be huge.
While a permanent move right now looks off the cards, a temporary deal could work out well for both parties and the Gers will see whether a deal can be struck in the final days of the window.
