Newly-promoted Premier League side Nottingham Forest have significantly improved their offer for Mainz defender Moussa Niakhaté, according to Kicker.

The reported bid is more than €10m and is closer to M05’s valuation of €15m. Per the report, the deal is expected to be completed in the next few days. This comes after Fabrizio Romano reported on Saturday that Forest have reached an agreement in principle with the Bundesliga side with only the smaller details left to be ironed out.

The former French youth international is entering the final year of his contract with M05, who had accepted that their captain would leave the club this summer amid interest from the Premier League.

Niakhaté arrived from Metz in 2018 for €6m and has played 135 games in all competitions. He would become the second player to leave the Bundesliga for Nottingham Forest, who completed a €20m deal for Union Berlin striker Taiwo Awoniyi last week.
