Ioannis Vrentzos, Forest’s current CEO, has decided to return to Greece with Olympiacos where he remains on the club’s board.

According to the Athletic, Barnsley’s CEO Dane Murphy is the man Evangelos Marinakis wants to replace him with at the City Ground.

20 facts about Nottingham Forest’s top five most expensive signings – Are they true or false?

Murphy has been at Barnsley since the summer of 2019, overseeing the Tykes’ recruitment policy which has seen them bring in the likes of Daryl Dike, Carlton Morris and Callum Brittain.

The Tykes finished fifth in the Championship last season before losing to Swansea City in the play-off semi-finals, and will be keen to go one further in 2021/22.

The Athletic claim that whilst Chris Brass and George Syrianos have already joined the recruitment department, Murphy, should he be appointed, will be given the license to stamp his authority at the City Ground.

The Verdict

This is a really exciting development for Forest fans to get their teeth into.

It is clear that there needs to be a change in direction at the City Ground, with the club’s recruitment policy coming under real scrutiny in recent years.

But Murphy seems to be a really shrewd operator who has done a wonderful job at Barnsley, particularly in the last year.

The current regime isn’t working, so bringing in someone from a well-run Championship club would be a statement of intent.
