Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper is lining up a move for Union Berlin winger Sheraldo Becker, a player who would be another ‘good option’ for the manager, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Reds strengthened their squad considerably in the summer to prepare for life in the Premier League, but they are now plotting more signings at the City Ground in the January transfer window, amid fears of relegation.

Nottingham Forest transfer news – Becker

Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg first broke the story about Becker, highlighting that Forest had ‘inquired’ about his availability for a summer transfer switch, owing to their desire to fire themselves to safety in the top flight.

While it is pointed out that any move is still in the very early stages the fact that the 27-year-old wants to play in the Premier League one day could accelerate a move, although his current club are not in a position where they need to sell given that he is contracted until 2025, as per Transfermarkt.

The Suriname international is striker Taiwo Awoniyi’s former teammate at Union Berlin, and it is detailed by Nottingham Live that he has moved to a more central role since Awoniyi arrived at the City Ground, with this relationship perhaps able to play a part in helping a move to transpire.

What has Jones said about Becker?

Jones concedes that he does not know what the level of interest is on Forest’s behalf but believes that Becker, who has been recorded as the third-quickest player in the Bundesliga, would have something to offer Cooper as a result of his goals record.

In an interview with GIVEMESPORT, Jones said: “I’m not sure about the actual interest but Union Berlin have put themselves on the map this season, his performances have been pretty key.

He’s had a lot of game time, he’s contributed with goals in some big games and if Forest can manage to fit anyone else in their squad then maybe he’s a good option.

How has Becker performed this season?

Journalist Manuel Veth has lauded the £23k-per-week earner, as per Salary Sport, as being ‘incredible‘ for Union Berlin this season, with the German side sitting pretty in fifth place in the Bundesliga, well in contention to qualify for Europe.

The Amsterdam-born forward has been vital to this impressive run, netting a very solid seven goals in 15 league appearances, as per Transfermarkt, while four assists in that time also displays his ability to bring his teammates into the attacking phase of play.

Who scored a back-heeled goal for England Women in the Euro 2022 semi-final vs Sweden?

Beth Mead Alessia Russo Lauren Hemp Fran Kirby

In Union Berlin’s last home match before the break for the Qatar World Cup, their talisman was once again in inspired form, netting their opening goal of the game, while he has shown no sign of showing down in the recent friendlies, bagging a brace against Hansa Rostock in a 2-0 victory, as per SofaScore.

If Forest are to dig themselves out of the relegation battle that they are embroiled in, they could do with some more attacking firepower, and so Becker would be an excellent signing, particularly because he would be able to gel immediately with Awoniyi.
