Fabrizio Romano reports that Nottingham Forest have contacted RB Leipzig about potentially acquiring Lutsharel Geertruida. The 17-times-capped Dutch international may be on his way out of the Bundesliga after just one disappointing season. Leipzig finally acquired Geertruida after several years of trying back from Feyenoord Rotterdam one year ago. He cost the German Red Bulls €20m.
At the time, Geertruida was welcomed in Saxony to much fanfare. The player himself famously remarked that he was “finally at RB Leipzig!” A disappointing 2024/25 season that saw him drift in and out of the staring XI nevertheless rendered the 25-year-old a certified flop. Geertruida’s estimated market value has plummeted from €32m to €20m in the last 12 months.
Geertruida played almost no role for RB Leipzig in training camp and has logged zero minutes in Leipzig’s two competitive fixtures thus far this year. New RB head coach Ole Werner did select Geertruida for his matchday squad on both occasions, but the highly versatile defender remained unused on the bench on both occasions.
