Taiwo Awoniyi has joined Nottingham Forest’s casualty list after leaving Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying camp.
The forward only recently returned from a groin injury to feature in Forest’s three Premier League games before the international break.
But Awoniyi has suffered a fresh setback while on duty with his country, who confirmed on Friday that he has returned to England for assessment.
“Taiwo Awoniyi has left for his base due to pain in the groin and returns to England tonight after discussions between his club doctors and Super Eagles medical team”, the Nigerian FA confirmed.
Awoniyi has scored four goals in nine outings this season for Steve Cooper’s side, who entertain Brighton on 25 November.
