The American is a target for clubs across Europe.
Norwich City's hopes of holding onto Josh Sargent beyond this summer have been boosted as a potential landing spot for him is looking less likely.
There is very understandable intrigue in the American this summer, as there has been for the past couple of transfer windows.
Injuries aside - an admittedly big caveat - Sargent is a phenomenal forward who has a proven ability to find the back of the net. His 44 goals over the past three seasons for Norwich prove that.
The BBC have reported that the Canaries would want £20 million for Sargent. Two clubs have been primarily linked with him this summer: AS Roma and Wolfsburg. He is very familiar with German football, having joined the Canaries from the Bundesliga in 2021. According to Kicker, the former Werder Bremen forward is wanted by their league rivals.
Gian Piero Gasperini's side were linked with Sargent by Gianluca Di Marzio, although he wasn't said to be the only centre-forward that they were monitoring. Stuttgart's Nick Woltemade was also said to be on their radar, providing Norwich with some added hope that they wouldn't go for Sargent.
The chances of Roma going after him have since become even thinner. According to The Athletic, they are working on a deal to sign Brighton & Hove Albion's Evan Ferguson.
The Irishman, who was formerly valued at £100 million and was wanted by a number of England's top clubs, has struggled with injury and form over the last couple of seasons, but that hasn't dissuaded the Italian giants from pursuing Ferguson. They hope to be able to agree a deal with the Seagulls for the 20-year-old.
Norwich have always been confident in their ability to get a good price for their top assets. Borja Sainz is set to leave Carrow Road imminently to join Porto in a deal reported to be worth £14.25 million, and which includes a 20 per cent sell-on clause. He said his final goodbyes to his City teammates on Wednesday.
Norwich have to prepare for the possibility of Sargent not being available to their new boss, Liam Manning, either at all or just for a short period. The same could be said for Sainz, and now they will have to find a way to replace what he could offer.
The money that they earn from the Spaniard, and would earn from selling his American partner, will certainly help the sporting director, Ben Knapper, and others find replacements. Fundamentally, though, these plans have to be in place before anything is signed, sealed or delivered so that Norwich don't feel caught out by any of these major sales.
