Norwich City have been one of the best teams in the Championship in 2024 so far, and they are now on the charge to reach the play-offs, currently finding themselves in sixth place.
David Wagner had received plenty of criticism towards the start of the season, however, his side have now only lost three times in 15 league games so far this calendar year, taking the doubt out of the Canaries faithful that he should be sacked.
Despite their brilliant form of late, a spot in the top six is far from guaranteed.
Despite being four points clear of Coventry City in seventh and five of Preston North End in eighth, both sides have a game in hand, which could prove pivotal.
If Norwich do once again reach the promised land though, they could look to re-sign one of their former loanees - Oliver Skipp.
Skipp has been at his current club Tottenham Hotspur his entire professional career, except for the 20/21 season, which he spent on loan with Norwich.
In that campaign, the then 20-year-old would help the Canaries win the Championship, having been relegated the season prior.
His performances were brilliant, so much so that he was included in the 2021 PFA Team of the Year.
The defensive midfielder would play in 45 of Norwich’s 46 Championship games, becoming an integral part of Daniel Farke’s side.
His ability to break up play and win the ball became vital in starting their attacks.
Skipp’s then-teammate Grant Hanley, who is still at Norwich today, praised Skipp in January 2021 for his ability to read the game and his decision-making when under pressure and went on to say that “he has experience beyond his years”.
With Norwich once again in and around the top six, promotion to the Premier League is on the cards.
However, Norwich have struggled in previous years when in the top flight, mainly down to the overall quality of the squad, failing to add to what got them up in the first place.
But signing Skipp, whether that be a loan move or a permanent one, would be a great signing.
He already knows the club from his time there previously, and Skipp has found game time at Tottenham hard to come by this season under Ange Postecoglou.
He has been restricted to just four starts at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
If Norwich do come up, then a move to Carrow Road may be beneficial for Skipp’s career.
It would provide Skipp with regular game time in the Premier League, something which he has not had throughout his time in North London, with 18 starts last season being his highest appearance season in the top flight.
It would also give Norwich a brilliant defensive midfield option, something they currently lack that is of Premier League level.
A loan would be more likely due to Skipp still being a backup player at Spurs, and with Norwich unlikely to match their asking price, with his contract set to expire in 2027.
But either way, a move to Norwich for Skipp would be the best move for all parties, if they are promoted.
