It has been a mixed start to the season for Norwich City in the Championship.

The Canaries were among the promotion favourites in the second tier last season, but they recorded a disappointing 13th-placed finish, and they will be hoping to improve on that in the year ahead.

David Wagner's side were one of the early frontrunners this season after picking up 13 points from their first six league games, and while their form has declined in recent weeks, they remain in and around the play-off places.

Despite Norwich's inconsistency, winger Jonathan Rowe and midfielder Gabriel Sara have both starred in the early weeks of the campaign.

Rowe had never scored for the Canaries prior to the start of this season, but he enjoyed an explosive start to the campaign, netting five goals in his first five appearances, and has established himself as one of the most exciting young players in the Championship.

Sara has impressed since his arrival at Carrow Road from Sao Paulo last summer, and he was rewarded for his fine form at the start of the season as he was named the Championship Player of the Month for August.

The duo have both been linked away. TEAMtalk claim that Rowe is attracting attention from Aston Villa, Brentford, Crystal Palace, Burnley, and Sheffield United, with Norwich reportedly preparing to offer him a "bumper new contract to fend off mounting interest" from elsewhere.

Globo Esporte claimed in June that Spanish giants Atletico Madrid and Premier League clubs were keeping tabs on Sara, but the Brazilian is said to have been happy in East Anglia, and a move away did not materialise.

The pair's list of suitors could increase if they maintain their form over the coming months, and with the January transfer window approaching, we looked at how Rowe's expected transfer value (xTV) compares to Sara.

Expected transfer value is calculated using a Football Transfers model powered by AI and trained on 600,000 past transfers, which takes into account factors such as age, position, player performance, experience, league strength, and contract situation.

How does Jonathan Rowe's transfer value compare to Gabriel Sara?

According to Football Transfers, Rowe's current expected transfer value range is between €0.6 million and €1.1 million, and his exact valuation at present is €0.9 million, which is just under £800,000.

Despite Rowe's excellent form, his xTV is the lowest it has ever been, declining from his highest value of €2.6 million (£2.3 million) in February, which may be due to the fact he's entered the final two years of his contract.

Norwich are said to be unwilling to sell Rowe in January, but should they change their stance, they will surely demand significantly more than £800,000 for a player of his potential.

In contrast, Sara's current expected transfer value range is between €3.9 million and €6.5 million, and his exact valuation at present is €5.2 million, which is just over £4.5 million.

Sara's expected transfer value has remained stable for the last year, but it is a rise on the €2.6 million (£2.3 million) it dropped to in the summer of 2022 prior to his move to Carrow Road.

The midfielder's highest-ever expected transfer value was €11.2 million (£9.7 million) in November 2021 before falling significantly in the following year.

Norwich paid £6 million for Sara last summer, and that could rise if certain clauses are met, so somewhere around the £10 million would likely be a fair valuation of the 24-year-old.
