Norwich City are very much in the driving seat to secure a place in this season’s Championship play-offs.

It has been a very strange campaign for the Canaries, as at one point it looked like it was going to be another frustrating season in the Championship and manager David Wagner was going to lose his job.

However, Wagner managed to turn it around and has got Norwich firing in this second half of the season; so much so, they look on course to seal sixth spot, despite Hull City and Coventry City putting up a fight.

One player who has been very key to Norwich being in with a shout for a top-six finish and, therefore, a place in the Premier League is midfielder Gabriel Sara.

It has taken a bit of time, but the Brazilian has shown this season why he was brought to the club for £10 million.

Gabirel Sara started his football career in his home country of Brazil with Sao Paulo, as he came through their academy before playing for the first team.

Sara ended up playing over 100 times for the Brazilian side, and in the process, he scored 17 goals and recorded nine assists.

So, the 24-year-old wasn’t in sensational form when Norwich City decided to take a risk and sign him in 2022, and he was obviously unknown to English football.

The Canaries announced the signing of Sara in the summer of 2022, with the midfielder signing a five-year contract after being bought for £10 million.

It took some time for Sara to settle into English football and what is required of him at Carrow Road, but the Brazilian is now firmly living up to his price tag, and he could potentially be someone the club makes millions from.

Most Norwich City fans would have been unsure what to expect from Gabriel Sara when he joined the club in 2022.

It was clear that patience was needed, as the 24-year-old scored just seven goals and chipped in with four assists in 40 league games last season.

But the midfielder needed time, and that was clear, as towards the back end of the 2022/23 season, Sara started to have more influence on the Norwich team, and as a result, his numbers were improving.

That seemed to set the tone for this season, as Sara has been in sensational form, scoring 12 goals and recording 11 assists in 43 Championship games.

Sara has started every league game this season, during which he has averaged 89 minutes per game and has been named in the team of the week on 13 separate occasions, per Sofascore.com.

As mentioned, the midfielder has 12 goals to his name, which is far greater than his xG, which is at 6.28. Sara is averaging a goal 0.3 times per game, which could be improved given that he is averaging 2.3 shots per game.

But as well as the goals, the 24-year-old has been mightily impressive in his creativity, with him outperforming his xAG, which is at 10.64. Furthermore, he has had 77.5 touches of the ball, which has helped him create 14 big chances for his teammates and also collect 2.5 key passes, per Sofascore.com.

This form and the fact that Norwich are firmly within a good chance of finishing in the play-off places have meant that Sara has been named in the Championship Team of the Season.

Signing Sara in 2022 from Sao Paulo was a risk for Norwich, but it is one that has paid off for them, as he’s been vital this season, and that could result in him attracting potential transfer interest this summer.

More and more Premier League clubs are looking at players from the Championship and weighing up whether to move for them or not. So, it would be a surprise if clubs didn’t start to look at Sara, given his form throughout the campaign.

Norwich will not want to lose the Brazilian, but as they’ve shown previously, they will have a price for the midfielder, and if that is met, they will probably agree to let the player leave.

Therefore, Sara could become another Norwich player who goes on to make the club millions this summer after being signed as a transfer gamble.
