Smith first joined the franchise in 2016, forming part of the Western New York Flash’s NWSL Championship-winning season before the team moved to North Carolina and rebranded.

Just two years after her arrival, the club traded Smith and teammate Ashley Hatch to the Washington Spirit in exchange for Crystal Dunn’s rights.

The defender made 23 appearances for the Spirit, before seeing stints at the Newcastle Jets and Reign FC. In 2020, the Courage made a bid for Smith again, completing a trade with OL Reign for the player in exchange for Ally Watt.

Overall, she recorded 63 regular-season appearances for the Flash and Courage, managing two goals and four assists in that span.
