A leading figure in the race to become president of La Liga giants Barcelona has on Thursday made clear his frustrations with those currently working behind the scenes at the Camp Nou.

This comes owing to their recent treatment of club icon Xavi.

As much, of course, comes after the Spanish tactician was unceremoniously sent on his way by the Barcelona brass back in May.

Mere weeks on from seeing his continuity for the 2024/25 campaign confirmed, Xavi had the rug pulled firmly out from underneath him.

This came by way of his sudden dismissal, to make room for the since-appointed Hansi Flick.

The months since Xavi’s exit have seen reports rampant in the media, regarding something of a fallout between Barca and their once-iconic midfielder.

The 44-year-old could hardly be blamed if he holds at least some level of resentment towards the Blaugrana, not for his sacking in itself, but the manner in which the situation was handled.

And one individual of the opinion that Xavi was indeed deserving of much better, comes in the form of the aforementioned Victor Font.

Speaking in an interview with Diario Sport this week, Font, who is expected to run for Barcelona president once more in the near future after missing out to Joan Laporta in 2021, was questioned on the firing of the club’s last headmaster.

And Font refused to bite his tongue, in responding:

“A nonsense, one more example of the mismanagement of the institution. What happened opened the eyes of many people. These changes of direction are not only focused on the Xavi case. We started the mandate very badly with a terrible management of the Koeman case, another legend of the club. The Messi case, another example of changes of direction. Many culés had their hearts broken that day seeing how the best player in history was scorned and left through the back door. A club that is not capable of managing its legends well or creating the conditions for the best to work at the club. More than thirty talented people have left, between directors and executives, who have not been replaced.”
