Championship outfit Nottingham Forest are considering a move for Reading centre-back Tom Holmes before the end of the window, according to Berkshire Live.

21-year-old Holmes played his first full season of Championship football last term after initially making his senior debut for the Royals back in 2018 as a 17-year-old, in what was a surprising maiden start under Jaap Stam.

But with the likes of fellow academy graduates Tom McIntyre and Gabriel Osho making a good impression at the latter end of the 2019/20 campaign and regular starters Liam Moore and Michael Morrison keeping the defender out in the cold at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, his future looked uncertain after returning from his loan spell at Belgian side KSV Roeselare last summer.

However, with Osho leaving the club and right-backs Andy Yiadom and Felipe Araruna both sustaining injuries within the first three games of the 2020/21 season, Reading manager Veljko Paunovic gave Holmes the chance to shine at right-back.

After doing an admirable job in an unnatural position, Holmes reverted to his favoured central position when more injuries started to creep in as the season progressed – and was a dependable figure for the Royals as they finished in a much-improved seventh position last term.

However, he only has one year left to go on his contract at the Select Car Leasing Stadium and is yet to sign a new three-year deal he was offered by the Berkshire side at the start of last month, alerting Nottingham Forest to another Reading player they could potentially target after their pursuit of Josh Laurent was reported yesterday.

With another key player being linked with a move away from the royal county, we take a look at some of the latest Twitter reaction from Reading fans on this news.
