No sign of major key Ibrox men as Rangers play Liege | OneFootball

There’s no denying Rangers were unable to take much from a pretty modest preseason friendly against Standard Liege, in which the ‘home’ side created few real chances and mostly went for shots outside the box, but it was just a training exercise of course.

And the big focus is who wasn’t involved as well as who was.

The one piece of good news is Scott Wright’s training injury from Tuesday seems to have cleared up and he was in from the second half in this one, so that’s one less thing to worry about.

Elsewhere?

No sign of James Tavernier, who played no part in this one, while Todd Cantwell was also completely uninvolved not to mention Dujon Sterling and Danilo. Jefte played the second half.

Our understanding is Tavernier is not fit and is currently on the bikes, and the same goes for Sterling, while Danilo isn’t ready either.

But Oscar Cortes did manage his first 45 minutes for Rangers since his injury earlier this year, and appeared to make it through unscathed. These minutes are valuable for the likes of him.

Ridvan also appears to be ok, having made it through in one piece as well.

Connor Goldson also appeared for the second half amid a tonne of speculation about his future, but as we know, nothing is imminent on any front with the club for the foreseeable future so that’s moot for now.

It was also heartening to see Alex Lowry involved in the second half as well, a player who may well be getting something of a possible reprieve from the manager. He’s playing a bit of a role this preseason.

Rabbi Matondo also got a run out in the second, as did Kieran Dowell, who, strangely, was once again on media duties – every time this guy makes a rare appearance for some reason he ends up being hyped by the channels and speaking to RTV.

Bizarre.

Clinton Nsiala also made his Rangers debut, following Jefte and Barron making theirs.

Do we take much from this one?

Probably more from who wasn’t there than who was, in all honesty.
