Arsenal centre-back Omar Rekik is no longer with the North London club after his contract was terminated on mutual agreement yesterday, according to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The 22-year-old specifically requested that his contract be terminated and he is now a free agent, able to join any club following the end of the European summer transfer window.

Rekik spent most of his time at Arsenal out on loan and he leaves without making any official appearance for the first-team.

The three-cap Netherlands-born Tunisia international was with Swiss Super League club Servette during the second half of last season having been with League One club Wigan Athletic during the first half.

Rekik was also with Wigan during the second half of 2022-23 while they were in the Championship, joining them from Eredivisie club Sparta Rotterdam.

He joined Arsenal from Hertha BSC in 2021 as a youth player and was a regular for the youth teams, but breaking into the first-team proved difficult for him and he will look to establish himself elsewhere.

Rekik was also with Feyenoord, Manchester City, PSV Eindhoven and Marseille as a youth player before joining Hertha.

Arsenal ended the summer transfer window with the signing of Brazilian goalkeeper Neto from Bournemouth and a loan deal for Chelsea attacker Raheem Sterling having earlier completed deals for David Raya, Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino.

Aaron Ramsdale, Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe have all left in permanent deals while Reiss Nelson, Fabio Vieira, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Nuno Tavares and Karl Hein all left on loan.
