No Chelsea players make top 10 salaries in world football

The Daily Mirror have just published a list of the top 10 earners in World Football, and interestingly there are no Chelsea players on it.
Ten years ago there would have been a couple. But things have changed, and other clubs have increased their spending to match us.
The context of the article is Erling Haaland, who is put third on this list but with the caveat that a huge part of the £865,000 they credit him with earning comes in the form of bonuses.
That’s how modern football works in a lot of cases, and having the best basic salary doesn’t always mean you end the year with the most in your account. If you factor in all those variables, some of which we will never know about, you might well have a Chelsea player on this list.
The good news is that Reece James has recently signed a new contract, so it will be a while before we have to give him a raise…
