Rangers were denied victory by a 93rd minute Hibernian equaliser on Saturday after they had been reduced to nine men.

John Lundstram and second half substitute Alfredo Morelos both saw red for the Gers, with Josh Campbell’s late equaliser earning the hosts a share of the spoils at Easter Road.

In an unusual move, Hibs boss Lee Johnson made what appeared to be a double tactical substitution in the 28th minute, with Ewan Henderson and Paul Hanlon going off, and Marijan Cabraja and Christian Doidge coming on.

The breakthrough came on the stroke of half-time, when Rangers were awarded a penalty for Rocky Bushiri’s shirt-tug on Antonio Colak. Goalkeeper David Marshall guessed the right way, but James Tavernier’s spot-kick was hit hard into the corner for 1-0.

But the hosts got themselves back on level terms early in the second half, when Elie Youan’s low cross was poked home by Martin Boyle for 1-1.

They weren’t level for long though, with Lawrence soon slamming home a header from Borna Barisic’s delivery to put Rangers back in front.

However, the visitors were then dealt a blow when John Lundstram was shown a straight red card for chopping down Boyle with 24 minutes left on the clock.

And they were soon down to nine men when Morelos – who only came on as a substitute in the 62nd minute – was sent off for lashing out at Cabraja off the ball in the 75th minute.

Hibs pushed for an equaliser and deep into stoppage time they got it, when Campbell found the net with a brilliant half-volley from the edge of the area to lift the roof off the stadium.

That result leaves Rangers a point ahead of rivals Celtic at the top of the Premier League, with Celtic taking on Hearts on Sunday.
