As per Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur are set to announce the extension of Timo Werner’s loan from RB Leipzig for an additional year.

The move comes after an initial deal saw The German loaned to the London club from January 2024 to June 2024, with Spurs covering the player’s full salary, and reportedly obtaining a €15/16 million option-to-buy clause.

However, having decided not to trigger that option, The Lilywhites have agreed a deal with Marco Rose’s side to extend the loan with the same conditions, but lasting from July 2024 to June 2025.

The 28-year-old, who is believed to be happy to stay at Spurs, made some significant contributions in his six months under Ange Postecolgou, contributing two goals and three assists in just 10 Premier League starts.

He could have had a bigger impact too, with Sofascore showing he missed five big chances and under-performed his expected goals (xG), whilst an injury suffered just 31 minutes into the North London Derby saw him ruled out for the final five games of the season.

The versatile forward will also hope he fares better than his previous two full campaigns in England, where netted just 10 goals along with nine assists across 56 league appearances for Chelsea.

As for next year though, Werner will get plenty of chances to impress again in Spurs colors, as they look to improve upon last season’s fifth place finish and reach glory in the Europa League, in what is set to be a defining second season in charge for their Australian head coach.
