Niko Kovac signs new Borussia Dortmund contract | OneFootball

Borussia Dortmund head coach Niko Kovac has signed a new deal that keeps him at the club until 2027.

The Croatian initially joined on a contract running to 2026, but the Black and Yellows confirmed on Tuesday that the parties have now agreed to extend for a further year.

“Niko has dedicated himself to his role at BVB with everything he has,” said sporting managing director Lars Ricken.

“He is a true football expert with clear principles, honest to the core, straightforward in his communication, and someone who rewards performance. Under his disciplined leadership, we found our way back to success, stabilized our defense, scored significantly more goals, and played attractive football once again.

"The negotiations were fair, respectful, and solution-oriented from the start. This mutual trust is the foundation of our collaboration.”

Kovac expressed his own satisfaction with the extension:

“Over the past six months, we have achieved a lot together and brought Borussia back on track. As a coaching team, we have felt great trust and the sense that we can achieve something meaningful here together with the club and the fans," said Kovac.

"The talks in recent weeks have reinforced my belief that we can continue this path successfully in the long term. With honest work, clear decisions, and great joy, we want to help Borussia return to its former strength. We still have a lot ahead of us here."
