Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson confirmed the club are in talks with an unnamed forward amid speculation linking them with a move for Luton Town striker Harry Cornick.

According to Football Insider, the Robins and fellow Championship outfit Swansea City have submitted bids for Cornick.

The 27-year-old joined the Hatters from Bournemouth in August 2017 when the club were in League Two, helping them to consecutive promotions and reaching the Championship play-offs during his time at Kenilworth Road.

He has scored two goals and registered four assists in 23 appearances in all competitions this campaign, but with his contract expiring at the end of the season, he is beginning to attract attention from elsewhere.

Luton are supposedly reluctant to lose Cornick this month as they push for the top six, but manager Rob Edwards admitted that there has been interest in his services and he did not rule out an exit before the window closes next week.

The Robins are in need of attacking reinforcements after the departure of Antoine Semenyo to Bournemouth and with Tommy Conway out injured and while Pearson did not name Cornick specifically, he said that talks were ongoing about a potential new arrival in the forward areas.

When asked if a deal had been agreed with the player in question, Pearson told Bristol Live: “No, not as we stand at the minute.

“I had an update this morning and it was no change, so we’ll see what the next two or three days bring.

“What we do will is this. We will either add in the way that we can, or we want to, or we will work with what we have until we can add in the right way.

“It’s about balance, we know that we are one or two players short of having decent cover.

“We know that but having said that I don’t want to bring players in for the sake of it so it always tests everybody’s resolve in that regard.”

The Verdict

Cornick would be an excellent signing for Bristol City.

While he has not had the most prolific season this time around, the 12 goals he scored for the Hatters last campaign underline his credentials at Championship level.

It is unknown whether Cornick is the player Pearson was referring to, but in a Robins side possessing a number of creative players, it would not be a surprise to see him thrive should he make the move to Ashton Gate.

The Hatters will not want to lose Cornick so close to the end of the window and with little time to find a replacement, particularly not when they are in such a strong position in the table.

But with his contract running down, it may depend on whether the club are willing to lose him for free in the summer or if anyone can meet his valuation in the coming days.
