Saturday saw Chelsea defender Reece James collect his 100th appearance for the club, and what a special moment that was for him and his family, despite the loss.

Although I labelled him a defender, he is basically playing as a winger, or as an extra number 10 in Thomas Tuchel’s setup right now, just showing another great element of his game, his versatility to be able to play anywhere on the pitch and do a great job.

He’s been at the club since the age of 6, and his father Nigel has seen his goals and ambitions since a young age. He was always playing football and would never be seen without a ball at his feet.

But Reece has one massive ambition, and his father says that the true emotions will really not be fully hit until this happens, and that of course is for Reece James to become the Chelsea captain, and Nigel says that is his exact ambition right now. He wants to be the man everyone thinks of when they hear the name Chelsea, as reported by The Athletic here.

“100 games… you just sit there and think, ‘Wow’. To do that at 21… there are some people who play 300 in their career,” Nigel James told The Athletic.

“But I’m not emotional. The part where I will be emotional is the day he becomes Chelsea captain. That’s his ambition and mine as well.

“Didier Drogba was a legend and so was John Terry. But Reece has been at Chelsea since he was six. There isn’t a player who has been there that young and gone on to wear the armband. The goal is to be the man that, when you hear Chelsea, you think Reece James.”
