Barcelona have already focused all their efforts on signing Nico Williams as soon as possible. No one at the club wants to set specific dates but there is total optimism that the Athletic Club winger will be able to join in a signing that is considered a priority and a strategic one.

In fact, SPORT states that Nico will be Barça’s first signing and it’s all just a matter of waiting for the player to give the definitive OK to the contractual conditions that the club has set out to activate the whole operation to close the deal.

It is not an easy task, but Barcelona are very clear that, for now, the big effort will be for Nico and then they will try to sign Dani Olmo.

Euro displays sealed the deal

Nico had been on Barcelona’s radar for a long time but his performances for Spain at the UEFA Euro 2024 made everyone at the club absolutely sure about going after his signing.

Barça’s sporting department had already been in contact with his entourage since the end of the season, but in the last few weeks, they began the definitive assault by formalising a firm offer for five years that could be agreed by all parties.

For now, nothing has been signed, but Barça believe that the winger will eventually give his full OK to arrive at Camp Nou.

1:1 rule on the horizon

Meanwhile, Barcelona have been informing La Liga of their intentions and they are hoping that in a matter of days they will be able to return to the 1:1 salary cap rule, as without it it would be impossible to deal with this signing.

In fact, Nico and his entourage were concerned about the issue, but Barça have made it clear to the player that he can be registered almost immediately and will be able to make his debut in the first league game if Hansi Flick deems it appropriate.

The agreement will be long-term – for five seasons – so that the amortisation of the transfer fits within the salary cap, as will his salary, which will be rising as in recent renewals or signings that Barça have made in recent times.

As far as his €58 million release clause is concerned, Barcelona have everything ready to activate it and as such a transfer might not be far away.
