Barcelona have been handed a major boost in their pursuit to sign Athletic Club winger Nico Williams (22). Ben Jacobs reports that the Spaniard is open to reducing his salary demands to join Hansi Flick’s side this summer.
Barca sporting director Deco held a meeting with Williams’ entourage today, which lasted over one and a half hours, according to Sport, and per Jacobs, the 22-year-old attacker is ready to agree to a €12m gross salary, which was discussed 12 months ago.
It’s a blow to Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Chelsea, all of whom had showed interest in signing Williams. As reported via our colleagues at Get German Football News, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich also held discussions prior their trip to the USA for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
An extension at Athletic Club beyond 2027 can’t be ruled out either.
He helped Athletic Club to the semi-finals of the Europa League with five goals and three assists, which saw him named in the UEFA Europa League Team of the Season. Williams also scored five goals and provided five assists in 29 La Liga games last season.
