Speaking in an interview with La Vanguardia, Athletic Club and Spain winger Nico Williams has opened up on the transfer interest he is garnering from FC Barcelona this summer.

The Spanish international’s displays for club and country have seen him attract several admirers, most notably Barcelona.

The Blaugrana are eager to reinforce their options on the left flank and as per reports, Nico happens to be the clear favourite option for new manager Hansi Flick.

Apart from Barcelona, there are other teams like Arsenal, Chelsea, and even Liverpool who have shown an interest in Nico Williams heading into the summer window.

When asked about the growing interest in him from big clubs, the 21-year-old Athletic Club starlet replied:

“Everything that comes from outside is good, it means I’m doing my job well. Every kid dreams of being noticed by big clubs.”

On being probed about the interest from Barcelona, in particular, Nico added: “I’m focused on doing well at the European Championship, and whatever comes after that I’ll find out because these days I’m totally disconnected.”

During the interview, Nico Williams also shed some light on his relationship with Barcelona and Spain winger Lamine Yamal, with the young duo having formed a close bond over a short period of time.

“We get along very well. We’re not just team-mates, we’re also friends, and I think that’s something that also matters when it comes to leading a team to the big time,” said Nico of his equation with Yamal.

Opening up on how their friendship came to be, the Athletic Club winger added: “Balde is the reason, he was the link between us.

“The first time we met, Lamine joined Balde and me and after that, we started talking and we saw that we had a lot of similar topics of conversation. That’s also when the banter started and now I think we have a nice relationship.”

Yamal has, on multiple occasions, stated that he hopes to see Nico join him at Barcelona. Only time will tell whether that materialises this summer.
