Ligue 1 side OGC Nice confirmed the arrival of defender Moïse Bombito on Monday.
The 24-year-old arrives from Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids in a deal worth up to $10.7 million until 2028.
Bombito became a stand-out player in America after 34 appearances for Colorado and recently broke into the Canadian national team.
His performances at Copa América 2024 helped the Canucks finish fourth and led to multiple European clubs inquiring about his talents. Bombito notably started in all six of Canada’s games.
“Moïse is considered one of the best defenders in North America,” says Florian Maurice, Nice Sporting Director.
“He has great physical qualities and a lot of potential for growth. He makes a strong impact on the pitch, with a commanding presence and a strong personality.
“He just had a successful Copa America where Canada reached the semi-finals … We are convinced that he will bring a lot to the team.”
The transfer breaks the MLS record fee for a centre-back and surpasses the American club’s outbound transfer record.
