Having signed a long-term contract extension, Neymar is ambitious to add to his trophy tally at the club and leave an indelible imprint in the French capital.

Neymar told PSG TV: "I'm very happy, very happy to be extending my contract with Paris until 2025. The truth is that I'm very happy to be staying here for several more years, to be a part of the club's project, to try and win titles, to try and achieve our biggest dream which is the Champions League."

It is surely no co-incidence that PSG"s most troubled campaign for years has been an injury-plagued one for their Brazilian maestro.  Neymar has started just 13 of PSG's 36 league games, scoring eight goals – comfortably his lowest tally since joining in 2017.

There have been times when his frustration has boiled over – as the red cards against Marseille and Lille would tesify – but the 29-year-old is convinced he has come out of the experience as a better player, and person.

"I have changed a lot"

"I have changed a lot. I have learned a lot. Things have happened that should not have happened. We had fights, a few sad times, but overall, the evolution has been very positive. I am happy, I am proud to be part of the history of Paris Saint-Germain. I think I improved as a person, as a human being, and as a player too."

Neymar's contribution during his four seasons in France has been overwhelmingly positive... In 68 Ligue 1 appearances, he has scored 55 goals and contributed 32 assists, forming a near telephatic understanding with Kylian Mbappé.  The former Barcelona forward has won three league titles and three domestic cups in France, and helped PSG get closer than ever to realising their Champions League dream.

Neymar said: " Of course, my goal, when I came to Paris Saint-Germain, was to help put Paris Saint-Germain to the top, among the very best, and we are getting close. We are creating more and more experience to help us negotiate these types of games, to know how to play in the Champions League. And Paris is on the right track, we are getting closer and closer to the taste of winning the Champions League. I'm sure we can do it."
