World Cup 2022 is nearly upon us and one of the names that fans are desperate to see light up the competition is certainly Neymar Jr. The dazzling Brazilian has been electric for Paris Saint Germain this season, linking up Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi to tear apart defences.
His influence reaches far and wide, not even just in the football world – with him recently appearing as a skin in popular games such as Fortnite and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.
With the global superstar competing in the global competition of the World Cup very soon, it’s only fitting to see how he’s fared in previous tournaments.
Here we have how many goals Neymar Jr has scored at World Cup tournaments.
Neymar has scored a total of six goals at World Cup competitions.
His first World Cup was in 2010 ans it’s safe to say that all eyes were on him given the fact the competiiton was being held in Brazil. The silky winger lit up the initial stages of the comp, scoring four goals in four games.
Disaster struck in the quarter-finals though, as he was left with a fractured vertebrae after a challenge from Juan Zuniga in Brazil’s win against Columbia. He then saw his side get embarssed by Germany 7-1 and then in the 3rd/4th place play off by the Netherlands.
This is why he was desperate for a better finish in Russia, 2018 which also sadly didnt happen for him. Brazil were beat by Belgium in the last 16, with Neymar only scoring two goals in the games he played.
His overall record during the huge event is actually very impressive given he’s only had two tries with on injury, however this is no surprise for a player of his calibre.
Of course he is! The star player was named in Brazil’s 26-man squad on Tuesday 7th November 2022.
How will he fare in the 2022 World Cup? Only time will tell, but with Brazil being one of the favouites, a lot rests on the shoulders of the magic man.
