Neymar is one of the most recognisable players in world football but how many goals has the Brazil and PSG superstar scored at the World Cup?
The winger is undoubtedly going to be among the top players at the tournament, which begins in Qatar in November.
Neymar has been around forever and has won 120 caps for his country, scoring 74 goals in total, as per Transfermarkt.
The former Barcelona star has only ever played at two World Cups, however, playing at the 2014 tournament in his home country, and the 2018 tournament in Russia.
How many goals has Neymar scored at the World Cup, though, as he prepares to travel with his compatriots to the Middle East?
Croatia and Cameroon in the group stages.
He didn’t score in the knockout games against Chile and Colombia but provided an assist in the latter, and then sustained a hugely debilitating back injury that ruled him out of that famous 7-1 defeat to Germany in the semi-finals.
In 2018, he scored against both Costa Rica and Mexico, taking his tally to six goals.
One.
This sounds like a confusing stat on the surface but he has only ever been available to play in four knockout games at the tournament – against Chile and Colombia in 2014, and Mexico and Belgium in 2018.
He scored in the clash with Mexico in the Round of 16 as Brazil won 2-0, and also provided an assist, but he did not score in their quarter-final defeat to Belgium.
He will be out to add to this tally once the tournament kicks off.
Brazil are undoubtedly one of the favourites to win the competition and they will play Serbia, Switzerland, and Cameroon in the group stages.
Coming through Group G as leaders could also set up a mouthwatering clash with Portugal in the Round of 16, provided Cristiano Ronaldo’s side doesn’t win their group. Brazil could finish second and play them if Portugal win their group.
Still, Neymar will be licking his lips at these opponents and will be hoping to carry his country to World Cup glory.
They have not lifted the trophy since 2002, going closes in 2014, when they ultimately finished fourth, but that tournament ended in the humiliation of being thumped by Germany.
It is a far cry from the 90s and 2000s when Brazil won the trophy in 1994 and 2002 and were runners-up in 1998.
