Newcastle v Liverpool tickets – Absolute shambles from club as fans blocked from buying | OneFootball

Match by match Newcastle v Liverpool tickets went on sale to season ticket holders and members last Thursday (7 April 2022) at 10am.

Or at least they should have done.

However, after Newcastle fans logged on to (try to!) buy Newcastle v Liverpool tickets, the club then posted an announcement (see below) on the official website, saying ‘technical difficulties’ had led to the postponement of the ticket sale to today (Wednesday 13 April 2022).

Newcastle United Official Announcement – 7 April 2022:

Tickets for Newcastle United’s Premier League clash with Liverpool will go on sale to Members next week.

The title-chasing Reds come to St. James’ Park on Saturday, 30th April for a 12.30pm (BST) kick-off and the game is a category AA fixture, with tickets only released to Members. Sales were due to open at 10am on Thursday, 7th April but due to technical difficulties, they will now go on sale to Members at 10am on Wednesday, 13th April. The club apologues for any inconvenience.

Supporters are reminded that book.nufc.co.uk is the only official place to purchase official general admission match tickets. This sale is strictly for home supporters only and subject to Newcastle United’s terms and conditions of entry. Abuse of these terms may result in the cancellation and withdrawal of your season ticket and or membership and admission to this fixture refused.

Single match ticket holders and season ticket holders are in breach of the terms and conditions in the event of re-selling or any unauthorised transfers. Any ticket that is not purchased in a valid manner may be cancelled and no refund given. Tickets obtained in any other manner are done so at the risk of the individual purchaser.’

Very embarrassing that this happened last Thursday and so many Newcastle United fans messed about, but never mind, at least giving it another six days would ensure that the club would have everything working perfectly this morning when the Newcastle v Liverpool tickets did actually go on sale.

Wrong!

I think the new Newcastle United owners have got a lot right since coming in and are committed to getting things right.

However…that doesn’t mean they are absolved from all blame when things don’t go right.

Obviously the new owners knew there would be massive demand for Newcastle v Liverpool tickets this morning but a massive fail for their IT department, again!

An absolute shambles as people in a queue forever, only to then get onto the official club ticketing site and be met by this kind of message…

For desperate Newcastle fans trying to navigate their way, it seemed there was no way out once you got this message.

The only route left open…to rejoin a queue of many many thousands that you had just got to the front of.

Fans have been expressing their frustration by replying to the official cub Tweet saying Newcastle v Liverpool tickets were now on sale (allegedly…):

‘What’s this? Sort it out man.’

‘Me too been on since 9am keep refreshing and does it everytime joined the queue again.’

‘Shame we get the front of the queue and the website crashes as it’s letting you in. Son’s birthday ruined no chance of getting tickets now.’

‘Same – have had to go back in queue and now at 6000.’

‘Website down joke of a system this.’

‘Waited an hour and as soon as I get in to the site error.’

‘Website crashing all the time with internal error messages. Waited in the queue, got to the front and every single click to the next page crashes the website with internal error messages.’

’25 minute wait time, 48 minute wait time, 32 minute wait time, 56 minute wait time – banter.’

‘Anyone else bought tickets. Money went out there account but the website saying order still processing?’

‘Yep exact same thing happened to me, money went out my account, and then a broken ticket confirmation came through.’

‘Site has crashed again error after waiting on the queue, not really a fair sale for ST holders & members when the system can not handle demand. 2nd attempt with sale date.’

‘It has now completely frozen.’

In blaming the new owners, I am also accepting that I take it they still have the computer system / online set-up inherited from Mike Ashley, that faced very different problems. Rather than overwhelming demand for tickets, Mike Ashley and his ‘system’ trying to find 10,000+ fans willing to accept free half season tickets…
