Newcastle United travel to Elland Road to face Leeds on Saturday still searching for their first win of the new season.
After a frustrating draw at Aston Villa and a dramatic late defeat to Liverpool, Eddie Howe’s side are out to put a check in the win column against a Leeds team looking to bounce back from a testing week.
Eddie Howe has significant selection problems in midfield. He confirmed in his press conference that Joelinton will not feature due to a hip injury.
Sandro Tonali is also a major doubt, with the manager stating he is “battling to be fit”. In more positive news, defender Fabian Schär has been passed fit after following concussion protocols. Anthony Gordon is suspended, and the club remains in limbo over the future of Alexander Isak.
The absences could open the door for young striker William Osula to make his first start. Howe praised the forward for “taking his goal brilliantly” against Liverpool and giving the team “renewed energy”.
He will likely be supported by Harvey Barnes, who has scored in his last five league appearances against Leeds.
Newcastle United predicted XI: Pope; Trippier, Schär, Burn, Livramento; Guimarães, Willock, Ramsey; Elanga, Osula, Barnes.
The Premier League fixture takes place at Elland Road on Saturday, 30th August 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 5:30 pm BST.
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League in the UK. Coverage begins at 5pm BST.
