Newcastle Lead Delap Chase but Everton’s Pitch Turns Heads

Premier League Rivals Battle for Ipswich Star

It’s shaping up to be one of the summer’s most intriguing transfer tussles. Newcastle United, Everton, Manchester United and Chelsea are all vying for the signature of Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap. According to TEAMtalk, the Magpies are in direct talks with the 22-year-old, with Eddie Howe making a personal pitch to convince the striker that his future lies at St James’ Park.

Delap, who notched 12 Premier League goals despite Ipswich’s relegation, is suddenly the hottest ticket in the transfer market. As an England under-21 international, his profile has surged, and with a £30 million release clause now triggered, the race is truly on.

“Sources have revealed to TEAMtalk that Newcastle are sitting down with Delap’s representatives to convince him that a switch to St James’ Park is best for his career.”

Isak’s Presence May Complicate Newcastle’s Offer

Newcastle’s interest is complicated by the presence of Alexander Isak, a striker they see as their main man going forward. TEAMtalk reports that Callum Wilson is set to depart, opening the door for another forward, but game time may not be guaranteed.

“Eddie Howe is keen to sign another striker to compete with Alexander Isak amid speculation that Callum Wilson is set to be released by Newcastle.”

That’s a point Delap will consider carefully, particularly with Champions League football on offer at both Newcastle and Chelsea. However, clubs like Everton are making up ground with persuasive packages and the promise of a central role.

Everton’s Vision Impresses Delap

While they can’t offer European competition, Everton’s pitch hasn’t gone unnoticed. TEAMtalk reveal that “Delap was very impressed with Everton’s pitch, in which the club made clear that he would become an integral part of the squad, and offered him a lucrative salary.”

Manager David Moyes is prioritising attacking reinforcements, with Delap top of the list. Everton’s imminent move to the new Hill Dickinson Stadium only adds to the sense of momentum around the club.

“And while Newcastle are making a big push today, TEAMtalk understands that Everton have already presented a good pitch to Delap and his representatives.”

Delap’s Decision Looms Large

As it stands, no frontrunner has emerged, and all four suitors remain in the hunt. Manchester United and Chelsea are both willing to meet the release clause, and Chelsea’s Champions League qualification could prove a decisive factor.

“The race for Delap is still open at this stage, but his suitors are scrambling to get ahead as he is expected to decide on his next destination in the coming days.”

The coming week could be pivotal, not just for Delap, but for the shape of multiple top-flight squads ahead of a highly competitive 2025/26 season.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

It’s about time Everton started acting like a club with ambition again, and this pursuit of Liam Delap feels like a proper statement. We’ve all seen what Delap can do – 12 goals in a struggling Ipswich side speaks volumes – and under Moyes, he’d be given the chance to flourish.

What really stands out is the way TEAMtalk describes Everton’s pitch. Making Delap feel central to the club’s future and backing that up with a strong financial offer shows proper intent. We may not have European football to offer, but we do have a new stadium coming, a stable manager, and momentum. That counts for something.

Newcastle might be tempting, sure, but will he start ahead of Isak? Doubtful. And Chelsea? They rotate so often that a young striker can get lost. If Delap wants to play every week, become the main man and grow with the team, then Goodison – or rather the new Hill Dickinson Stadium – should be his next home.

Let’s hope he chooses wisely, because we’ve got the structure, the vision, and the hunger to take him to the next level.
