Newcastle United are now set to have talks with Alexander Isak and his representatives to sort a new enhanced and extended contract.
A new exclusive from The Times states that the new deal will make the Sweden striker comfortably United’s highest paid player.
There is no contract pressure anyway on Newcastle United as things stand, as Alexander Isak still has just over three years left on his current deal which runs until 30 June 2028, having signed a six year contract in summer 2022 when arriving from Real Sociedad for £63m.
Months before last season ended, the club made clear that one of the biggest priorities was to get a new contract agreed with Alexander Isak, both to reward the striker for his exceptional contribution and further strengthen that already solid contract position.
All of Newcastle United’s key players have contracts remaining of three years or more, as great work by the club has ensured the likes of Bruno, Joelinton, Anthony Gordon and others have extended their existing contracts.
Great to see the club being proactive on this front and not falling into the kind of mess the likes of Liverpool found themselves, when they had Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold left with just a few months remaining on their existing deals. Alexander-Arnold moving on to Real Madrid but last ditch deals seeing veterans, but still their best players, Van Dijk and Salah belatedly agreeing new deals.
Excellent news when/if Alexander Isak does agree a new extended contract with Newcastle United this summer.
As I said earlier, absolutely no contract pressure as things stand in terms of other clubs able to exploit if trying to sign Alexander Isak. However, a new extended contract with Newcastle United would massively strengthen that position further and most importantly, once and for all send out the very clear message that the striker sees his foreseeable future at St James’ Park.
Alexander Isak has done absolutely nothing to encourage the desperate lies and misinformation in the media, indeed, quite the opposite.
The world class striker has repeatedly, every interview, made clear how much he loves it at Newcastle United and talks about his future here, not elsewhere, saying how he can achieve his ambitions on Tyneside.
As a prime example, in mid-January 2025 Alexander Isak spoke to TNT Sports, at a time when Newcastle had won nine games (all competitions) in a row and Isak himself had scored in eight Premier League matches in a row, having grabbed a total of 11 goals in his last eight PL games.
At that point, Newcastle United were fourth in the Premier League and Alexander Isak hoping for another Champions League campaign AND/OR a trophy, as at that point Eddie Howe’s side were also 2-0 up at the halfway point of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal.
Alexander Isak speaking so positively (see below) about his future at Newcastle United over five months ago when both Champions League qualification and winning a trophy were still very much in the balance.
So now with that CL qualification AND a trophy banked, why exactly should Alexander Isak be desperate to get away from Newcastle United???
Alexander Isak speaking to TNT Sports – 17 January 2025:
“I always aim as high as possible, I want to be the best.
“That is the ambition and I will have to keep working hard and doing good things, which I am doing at the moment.
“It is hard to judge me and where I am at, but I am certainly happy with where I am at the moment.
“It is hard to set specific targets, obviously we want to get into the Champions League.
“You can see where a good run can take you.
“If you look two months back, we were in a completely different place. Now we have had a good run and we are fourth.
“So yeah, we really just have to focus on our performances, but we can’t hide from the fact that we want to be in the Champions League.
