Newcastle United have been promoted to the Barclays Women’s Championship after winning the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division title this afternoon.

The Magpies went into this afternoon’s fixture against Huddersfield Town knowing that a victory would seal the league title and promotion with two games to play. Becky Langley’s side went on to record an emphatic 10-0 victory over their opponents as they celebrated another big moment in their history in front of a club record crowd at Kingston Park of 7,382.

Newcastle United broke the deadlock inside 15 seconds through Emma Kelly before Beth Lumsden made it 2-0 17 minutes later. Kelly then added another goal before Katie Barker put The Magpies 4-0 up on the stroke of half-time.

The hosts were equally as relentless in the second half. Barker struck a fifth goal for her side before Lumsden soon made it 6-0. Jasmine McQuade then scored goal number seven before Charlotte Potts made it eight with a little over 10 minutes to go.

There was still time for Newcastle United to add more goals to their tally. Kacie Elson netted the ninth goal before Georgia Gibson scored the tenth in second half stoppage time to cap-off another famous occasion for the Tyneside club.

Newcastle United have now won back-to-back promotions. The Magpies were previously promoted to Tier 3 at the end of last season after winning the FA Women’s National League Division One North title.

Next season will see the club test themselves in the professional game for the first time in the Barclays Women’s Championship.
