Eddie Howe’s side are stepping up their efforts in the summer window with a triple raid on Premier League rivals.

Talks are advancing to sign Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, as the Magpies target a new long-term number one.

Trafford was a crucial part of Burnley’s promotion last season, conceding just 16 goals in 46 Championship games, a record for a Football League season. The deal for Trafford is understood to be in the region of £25m.

Telegraph Sport are reporting that offers have also been lodged for Brighton forward Joao Pedro and Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga. Pedro is keen to quit Brighton in search of a new challenge and is eyeing a move to a club competing in Europe.

The Brazilian has scored 30 goals in 70 games for Brighton and has won three caps for Brazil. He is viewed as ideal support to Alexander Isak, given an ability to operate as a centre-forward or in a more withdrawn role.

Elanga is also a player of interest after starring during Nottingham Forest’s run to European qualification. The Sweden international scored six times and provided 11 assists in the Premier League last season. The signing of a right-winger has been a long-term aim for Newcastle, despite the form of Jacob Murphy last season.

Elanga’s electric pace and intensity would add a new dynamic in transition for Newcastle. Last season, the 23-year-old clocked the fifth-fastest speed in the Premier League, while no player spent a higher percentage of their minutes sprinting than the Swede. Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon was second on the list.

Eddie Howe is understood to want at least two new signings before Newcastle return for pre-season on July 7th.
