In a recent report, The Sunday Mirror (25/9; page 77) revealed that Newcastle United have identified Leicester City talent Youri Tielemans as a target for this January transfer window. It has been stated that the Magpies are eyeing a £15m move for the Belgian international this winter.

Tielemans’ Up And Down Season At Leicester

Tielemans is having a difficult campaign at the King Power Stadium as he has failed to help Leicester pick up results in Premier League football. The 25-year-old has only registered one goal and one assist in eight matches for the Foxes this season in various competitions.

The Belgian sensation has been a consistent performer for the East Midlands club as he is averaging 2.1 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 1.3 shots, 1.7 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution, based on his pass completion rate of 87.7% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).

Tielemans is under contract at the King Power Stadium until the end of this campaign. Hence, Newcastle United have got a good chance of getting a deal done for him on the cheap this winter.

St. James’ Park

Is Tielemans A Good Option For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?

Tielemans can do a little bit of everything at the centre of the park. He is a good tackler of the ball and can make some timely interceptions for his team inside his half. The Belgian midfield ace can complete a few energetic dribbles towards the opponent’s penalty area and has got the vision to create a handful of inviting opportunities for others around him. He can even strike the ball with power from long range but is struggling to perform at his best of late.

At 25, Tielemans is about to enter his prime which makes him a good option for Newcastle to consider this January. He is definitely a decent, affordable signing for the Magpies to make when the transfer window commences at the start of next year. The Belgian is good enough to run things on his own from the centre of Eddie Howe‘s midfield.

Tielemans will bring more quality to Newcastle’s midfield department at St. James’ Park and could even help the Tyneside outfit challenge for some major silverware over the next few years. Thus, Howe should try everything in his power to secure the services of the 54-time Belgium international during the January transfer period.
