Newcastle United fans go on the attack as journalist furiously backtracks after club challenge

There is nothing quite like it, when Newcastle United fans take on journalists who try to undermine them and / or their football club.

Certainly since the new owners took over two months ago, so many journalists have thought they can get away with saying pretty much anything.

The truth? Well, why let it get in the way of a good story?

Matt Law of The Telegraph is the one who Newcastle United fans have now got in their sights…

Matt Law of The Telegraph – 4 December 2021:

‘Exclusive: Michael Emenalo turns down Newcastle United offer to become director of footballer following talks. Big blow for the club’

Matt Law of The Telegraph – 5 December 2021:

“This would worry me if I was a Newcastle fan.

“Not just because Michael Emenalo said no but because the thinking at the top of the club appears to be muddled and one person at least seems a little too fond of the fame/power attached to their place on the board.”

Mehrdad Ghodoussi responds via Twitter – 5 December 2021:

“Contrary to a newspaper report.

“Michael Emenalo was never offered the job of Sporting Director or Director of Football at Newcastle United.

“#NUFC #FactsMatter”

Matt Law – 5 December 2021:

“Newcastle United offered to make Michael Emenalo an ‘advisor to the board’ with a view to becoming director of football, a role he held detailed negotiations over.

“He turned it down because he was not convinved by the club’s vision.

“#factsmatter”

This is classic.

After having been challenged by Mehrdad Ghodoussi representing the club ownership.

Matt Law now admits that he wasn’t telling the truth yesterday.

After saying on Saturday that Michael Emenalo had been offered the Director of Football job at Newcastle and had turned it down, the shameless journalist now admits that this didn’t happen, BUT amazingly still thinks he can take the moral high ground. Repeating the #factsmatter used by the NUFC owners, as though he has been vindicated by his new version of events he is claiming on Sunday…

Who knows if this latest version of the truth claimed by Matt Law is true BUT it certainly wasn’t what he was saying on Saturday, or indeed earlier today when he further doubled down on his claims when also attacking Amanda Staveley with the ‘too fond of the fame/power’ insult. Quite extraordinary.

As Matt Law furiously backtracked and changed his story / truth today, Newcastle United fans have rightfully gone on the attack…

The Magpie Group:

‘That’s not what you said yesterday. Facts do indeed matter.’

LC:

‘Our owners have just said he was never offered the role so why are you changing a) what you said and b) still trying to argue with them? You got it wrong as usual, apologise and move on.’

Ikeythetinker:

‘So you were lying when you said he’s turned down the DOF role?’

James Griffiths:

‘You literally said yesterday he had turned down the role of DOF, now this. Which one is it Matt?’

Nick:

‘If you now agree that #FactsMatter , then why did you release a completely inaccurate piece earlier?’

Brian Parkin:

‘So he wasn’t offered DoF then? Make your mind up, Matt?’

Paul Volpe:

‘Mickey Mouse reporter for a Mickey Mouse rag.’

Blahblah:

‘I’m convinved you should turn spellcheck back on.’

Doddsy:

‘You said he rejected the dof role… so which one is it mat?’

Rory Faulds:

‘Completely different version of events to what you reported yesterday then. Facts do matter when you get them right.’

‘Wasn’t made an offer – false news.’
