Since the Saudi Arabian-backed takeover, Newcastle United are the centre of attraction over high-profile transfer rumours and according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, they are considering a winter swoop for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot. The Magpies are in need of a squad revamp to keep hold of their top-flight status. The owners, therefore, are likely to splash the cash in January to kickstart the new project at St. James’ Park.

The 26-year-old France international progressed through the youth ranks of Paris St-Germain and went on to make 227 senior appearances across competitions. However, he opted not to extend his stay at Parc des Princes and joined Juventus on a free transfer back in July 2019.

So far he has featured 91 times altogether for the Old Lady but his presence in the middle of the park has not made much of a difference in terms of creativity. Rabiot is being deployed as a ‘mezzala’ i.e. a left-sided midfielder, unlike previous terms when he used to operate more centrally.

Although the Frenchman has retained his familiar role while representing Les Bleus, Massimiliano Allegri is yet to get the most of him since his re-appointment as the Bianconeri boss. The club must generate funds to attain its targets next summer and should sanction a potential move if the right offer arrives.

Why Newcastle United Must Step Up Interest In Rabiot

There might not be an overhaul overnight, but the Magpies must take small steps in the right direction to emerge as title contenders in a few years’ time. Currently, they lack quality all over the pitch and the midfield is no exception either with the likes of Isaac Hayden, Sean Longstaff, Jeff Hendrick providing little inventiveness. They need a major upliftment in the centre of the pitch and must do everything to convince Rabiot of a potential Tyneside switch.

The midfield ace is hailed for his technicality, physical presence and mobility. He is a good dribbler who plays his part in quick transitions, makes late runs inside the box and offers great vision with his range of passing, movements and flexibility. His composure would help Newcastle settle down and dominate possession – something that has been missing in their game under Steve Bruce.

The Magpies can afford to pay Rabiot way more than the €7 million per year salary he is currently earning in Piedmont. It’s up to the player now whether he would want to come out of his comfort zone and ply his trade in England.
