Newcastle United are monitoring Leicester City midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall ahead of a potential summer move.

That's according to a report from The Daily Mirror, who do however suggest that the 25-year-old may not be the Magpies priority target for the upcoming market.

Following Leicester's relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season, Dewsbury-Hall has been a key player for the club in the Championship during the current campaign.

The midfielder has scored 12 goals and provided 13 assists in 46 appearances in all competitions for the Foxes, to help them mount a push for an immediate promotion back to the top-flight.

As a result, it seems as though interest from the Premier League could be growing in the Leicester man.

Tottenham and Brighton have already been linked with a move ahead of the summer, and now Newcastle have been identified as another potential suitor, although they may have other options to pursue as well.

Newcastle's Dewsbury-Hall stance revealed

According to this latest update, Dewsbury-Hall is being monitored by Newcastle, ahead of a potential move in the summer.

However, it is suggested that it is Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White who is currently the priority target for Eddie Howe's side once the window opens.

With both players operating in a similar number ten role, it may be unlikely that the Magpies pursue deals for both players over the course of the coming months.

For his part, Dewsbury-Hall currently has three years remaining on his contract with Leicester. That secures his future at The King Power Stadium until the end of the 2026/27 season, and does give the Foxes scope to respond to any offers that come in for him.

Leicester stuttering in promotion race

Whether or not Leicester retain the services of Dewsbury-Hall could be influenced by whether they can win promotion back to the Premier League.

However, the Foxes are stuttering with their attempts to do that, and suffered another blow with a 1-0 defeat at Plymouth Argyle on Friday night.

Results elsewhere though, mean they still sit second in the table, level on points with league leaders Ipswich Town, and one point clear of the play-off places, although they do have a game in hand.

Enzo Maresca's side are next in action on Saturday afternoon, when they host West Brom at The King Power Stadium.

Dewsbury-Hall could be a smart signing for Newcastle

It does look as though signing Dewsbury-Hall would be a sensible piece of business for Newcastle if they can pull it off.

The 25-year-old was arguably one of the brighter points for Leicester amid relegation last season, so it was perhaps something of a surprise that they kept him last summer.

That though, does now mean that Newcastle can be confident that they would be getting a pretty strong player for top-flight level, if they pull it off.

Indeed, that attacking midfield position is also an area where the Magpies may need to strengthen their options come the summer.

It is also worth noting that given the Profit and Sustainability regulations Leicester are having to deal with, Dewsbury-Hall could be more affordable than might otherwise have been the case, so the Foxes can ensure they balance the books financially and avoid further threat of punishment.
