Tottenham Hotspur's Dele Alli could "spark his career" back into life by securing a January move to Newcastle United, according to Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge.

Alli was an unused substitute for both of Spurs' last two Premier League encounters heading into the weekend and his time with the north London club has not gone to plan in recent years.

What's the latest news involving Alli?

Alli's recent performances have come under criticism and he revealed he endured sleepless nights after being substituted at half-time of last month's derby defeat to Arsenal.

It is a fall from grace considering, just three years ago, former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp described Alli as being worth £100million.

Alli only made seven Premier League starts for Spurs last season and saw a January loan move to Paris Saint-Germain, where he would have linked up with ex-chief Mauricio Pochettino, fall through.

That reportedly led to friction between then-Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho and chairman Daniel Levy after it was revealed the latter had blocked the switch.

Alli has made more than 260 appearances for the north Londoners, having joined in a £5million deal from Milton Keynes Dons six years ago, but went into today's clash with West Ham United having scored just one top flight goal since March 2020.

According to Spanish media outlet Sport, the 25-year-old is on Newcastle's radar ahead of the transfer window reopening in January.

What has Michael Bridge said about Alli?

Bridge believes now could be the right time for Alli to move onto pastures new.

Newcastle, fresh from their £305million takeover earlier this month, appear to have plenty of cash to spend to bolster their squad in January.

Bridge feels Alli could be a shrewd signing as the Tyneside club enters a new era.

He told GIVEMESPORT: "Does he need a move to spark his career?

"I think he could be a sensible signing for Newcastle in January."

What would Alli add to Newcastle's midfield?

Alli was valued at £138million by the Football Observatory in 2018 and you are not rated that highly unless you have real quality.

He offers plenty of Premier League experience as well, having racked up close to 180 appearances in the competition and more than 50 goals.

Alli has also shone at international level, winning 37 caps and scoring three goals.

One of those goals came during England's memorable 2018 World Cup campaign, with the Spurs man netting in the quarter-final victory over Sweden.

Miguel Almiron is currently Newcastle's only attacking midfielder, so Alli's addition would add welcome competition for the Paraguayan.
