Newcastle United have ‘been offered’ the chance to bring Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram to St James’ Park, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Magpies are reportedly one of several sides from across the continent who are interested in prising the 25-year-old away from Borussia-Park over the coming months.

What is the latest news involving Thuram?

Thuram’s £82,000-per-week contract is due to expire next summer, and Fabrizio Romano has revealed that he will ‘consider all options’ with the January transfer window fast approaching.

“I think there will be many rumours around Thuram as he’s good player available as potential free agent in the summer,” he wrote for CaughtOffside.

“I’m told he could really leave on a free transfer, so he’ll consider all options in the next months.”

The Sun have since claimed that Newcastle ‘may bid’ for Thuram during the winter window, although fellow Premier League outfits Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Liverpool are also listed amongst his potential suitors.

It’s believed that the Magpies’ Saudi owners are eager to back Eddie Howe’s Champions League push with a move for the France international.

What has Jones said about Thuram?

Jones has informed GiveMeSport that Newcastle have been presented with the opportunity to bring Thuram to the club and that they are ‘willing to consider’ a deal.

He said: “Thuram has been offered to Newcastle for the next window. He’s somebody that they are willing to consider. They see that he holds good value at the price that’s been put to them.”

Would Thuram be a good signing?

Thuram has been enjoying one of the most productive campaigns of his senior career for Monchengladbach, registering 13 goals and four assists in 17 appearances across all competitions taking his senior tally up to 59.

“Thuram is a world-class striker. You have to say it like that. He has world-class stature,” said Wolfsburg sporting director Marcel Schäfer after the Frenchman bagged a brace against his side last month.

As per FBref, the 6 foot 4 ace has also ranked in the 92nd percentile for completed dribbles, 91st for touches in the attacking penalty area, 90th for total shots, 89th for interceptions, and 83rd for progressive passes received amongst his positional peers over the last year.

It seems as though Thuram could provide another exciting option to Newcastle’s attack should he make the switch, therefore.
