Footage that circulated widely on social media and elsewhere appeared to show the England forward exchanging angry words with one supporter as the Red Devils warmed up ahead of their penultimate top-flight fixture of the season on Wednesday night.

More fan heckling of Rashford then seemed to ensue though it is unclear exactly what was said, with a steward seen trying to stop the comments from the crowd.

In another clip, Rashford is pulled away by Christian Eriksen before another United team-mate in Antony intervenes to try and calm him down.

Rashford made a late cameo off the bench against Newcastle for his first appearance since suffering an injury during the chaotic FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry at Wembley last month, having missed four games in a row.

His return, along with those of influential captain Bruno Fernandes and defender Lisandro Martinez, were a huge boost for under-fire manager Erik ten Hag, with United keeping their hopes of reaching Europe next season through the league alive with a pulsating 3-2 victory over qualification rivals Newcastle.

Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo and Rasmus Hojlund were all on target for the United, who still sit eighth heading into the final day of the season on Sunday after only their second win in nine league games - three points behind sixth-placed Chelsea and level with the Magpies, both of whom have a much better goal difference.

United - who have never finished lower than seventh in the Premier League era - will make the Europa Conference League if they achieve a better result away at Brighton than Newcastle manage at Brentford this weekend, though a place in the Europa League will be assured if they manage to upset the odds against cross-city rivals Manchester City in a repeat of last season’s FA Cup final at Wembley on May 25.

Having now proved his fitness, Rashford will hope to play a larger role at the weekend amid a frustrating season that has seen him fail to hit double figures in terms of goals, with only eight - and five assists - in 41 appearances across all competitions so far.
