Newcastle United could still make a move to sign Chelsea striker Armando Broja this summer, despite previous approaches for the player being rejected, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Eddie Howe has steadily strengthened his side during the summer transfer window but he could still add more names to his squad before the September 1 deadline.

What is the latest news on Broja?

West Ham and Everton are two other sides to be linked with a move for Broja this summer, but with the former securing a deal for Gianluca Scamacca, Newcastle may have a chance to sign the Albanian international.

However, Thomas Tuchel has insisted this summer that the 20-year-old is at Stamford Bridge to stay, with the Blues yet to replace Romelu Lukaku in the transfer market.

“Right now when he arrived, it’s clear he’s trying to impress and is just trying to become a Chelsea player as soon as possible,” Tuchel told a press-conference after their pre-season friendly with Charlotte last month.

“After his loan at Southampton, the situation was very clear for him to make the next step, to show his improvement and make an impression in pre-season.”

Lukaku returned to Inter Milan on loan this summer after a dreadful return to Stamford Bridge brought with it just eight Premier League goals.

What has Romano said on the potential move?

Romano understands that Newcastle could make another approach for Broja before the end of the transfer window, with Howe seemingly eager to strengthen his front line.

The journalist told GIVEMESPORT: “Let’s see what happens with Armando Broja because Chelsea turned down the proposals from West Ham and they signed Scamacca. But let’s see if Newcastle will try for him.”

Premier League and Newcastle United all-time top goalscorer Alan Shearer is a true legend of the game, but when did he leave their club?

Would Broja be a good signing for Newcastle?

With just Chris Wood and Callum Wilson at his disposal, it is clear that Howe needs reinforcements for that striking role. Wilson has frequently struggled with injuries while Wood only scored two goals for the Magpies following his January arrival.

Broja scored nine goals for Southampton last season and showed he has plenty of quality when it comes to linking play in the build-up too.

At 20-years of age he clearly has plenty of room to improve as well and it is easy to see him slotting seamlessly into Howe’s starting XI next term.

Convincing Chelsea to do a deal will likely be the toughest part and may rely on the Blues landing a replacement for Lukaku before the deadline.
